What is Absenteeism?

Absenteeism can be defined as the non-presence or absence of an employee on a prescribed day or time when s/he should be there in the office/field/work station.

In other words, Absenteeism is a self granted / self approved / sweet-willed time off and/or unplanned usual leave(s) without any good reason or on the basis of lame usually presenting lame excuse(s).

Absenteeism costs companies a lot in terms of nonappearance of the employees affecting the work(s)/job(s)/assigned task(s)/deliveries to customers/supply chain management/all departments concerned, and that might be either technical or of non-technical nature. Consequently affecting the businesses badly to their performance, reputation, customer relationship and profitability at the end.
